#TembeaKenya #ElgeyoMarakwetCounty #OneCrazyWomanFourKidsAndTheBeast One amazing trip from Luanda to Kerio Valley, via Gambogi, Kapsabet, Eldoret and Iten. A smoothless drive, tarmacked and spectacular winding drive down the valley. A must visit! We even got a stranger giving us mangoes for free!

Kogelo, Obama’s Home, Siaya County

Published 30 December 2017#SiayaTalesKogelo, ancestral home of Mama Sarah Obama.
An interesting place. Google maps led me straight to the gate though the home is unmarked but friendly locals assist.
It is a protected compound, says the guy manning the gate. Apparently one has to “book in advance”! I ask him how to go about it yet there is no website or any social media platform with contacts. Turns out you just show up at the gate and “book”.
A few minutes of pleading and we are allowed in. Of course with some informal guide fees paid. A tour of the graves and then a short chat with Mama Obama. A privilege for the troop and I.
As we leave, the guard asks me for a date in the evening after he learnt that I was travelling alone with the kids. Oi! A man can try!P/S Notice Dude’s Tee Shirt.#OneCrazyWomanFourKids

Under Rock, Siaya County

Ndere Rock next to Lake Kanyaboli. A religious ground for Legio Maria sect. We found quite a number deep in prayer (including wailing). Had to explain to the kids why they were crying in prayer.

Got a lovely view of Lake Kanyaboli.

Lake Kanyaboli, Siaya County

Beautiful, beautiful Lake Kanyaboli.
Sad that there is no signage to any of its many shores so we relied on Google and locals.
P/S do not trust directions from a motorbike guy or worse a bicycle guy because I was told of a “bypass” that led to the road to Hawinga. My idea of a bypass (Southern Bypass) and their idea (road through a maize field farm) were clearly worlds apart! But Blue Baby braved through the river beds a murram road.
We hired a local guy to take us around the Lake on an oar-paddled boat. Quite scary but hey, adrenaline is our thing.
Finally took a photo with a local guy who insisted on taking a selfie.

Mokima Guest House, Mweiga, Nyeri County

Published 29 December 2016

Day 11 of 17: #MommyAndTroopChronicles
#TembeaKenyaSeason2

1545hrs: We’ve docked in Mweiga. Our home for the next two days. This time around we are in a farm guest house nestled in the forest with views of both Mt Kenya and Aberdares ranges.
A wonderful home away from home, Mokima Guest House, it has a trained chef, well maintained garden, a game-viewing banda, ample and secure parking and of course, fresh food from the farm!
And the owner is just dotting over us, like a grandpa would! #FeelingLoved
